Dark clouds loom over the Georgia Southern University men’s tennis team as it loses while it finished off a two-game series with Kennesaw State University on Sunday in a 6-1 loss to the Owls.

The tennis team never quite controlled the tempo throughout the game. The doubles competition was the first half of the series. The only win in the doubles was between GSU senior Alain Garrido and freshman Andrew Dromsky who defeated Gianni Kubin and Gokalp Ozdemir from KSU with the an 8-1 win. Garrido later lost in the singles but performed better in the doubles.

“It’s tough, but I’m not disappointed at all because we’re going to do better next time,” Garrido said.

GSU did not perform well in the second half of the match, either. The Eagles gained some momentum and won one singles competition. The competition was won by freshman Kyle Hoffman as he defeated Louis Theodor of KSU. Hoffman won two on his matches 4-6, 6-3, and 6-3.

Junior Matthijs Verdam is still out with a foot injury and is expected back in two to three weeks. Head coach Nick Zieziula looks upon Verdam for a speedy return and to help the Eagles get out of the losing streak. The next match is one week away and the Eagles will use that as an advantage to rehabilitate problems and prepare for Davidson College on Saturday, March 3.
