In front of a crowd of 20,430 fans, the Georgia Southern Eagles, with new head coach Jeff Monken, began the 2010 season with a 48-3 win over the Tigers of Savannah State University.
The Eagle offense set out to bring back the triple option. GSU freshman fullback Robert Brown made his collegiate start with a nice rush up the middle to give the Eagles a first down. Junior slotback JJ Wilcox made a nice grab to give the Eagles good field advantage. Quarterback Jaybo Shaw set up a meeting with Jonathan Bryant in the end zone but the pass was a tad bit overthrown. The Eagles settled for a field goal to take a 3-0 lead over the Tigers.
Jonathan Bryant got the Eagles the first down and Brown did the rest. He scrambled into the end zone for the touchdown and kicker Adrian Mora added the extra point to put the Eagles up 10-0 less than four minutes into the first half.
